Today’s the day your mom finally records her life stories. I make the process fun, easy, and human.

Based in San Francisco, I work with parents (new and seasoned) and grandparents to record memories and milestones through any number of interviews that I carefully edit into ready-to-print heirlooms that are treasured forever and only get better with age.

Whether you want me to document a milestone in your loved one’s life, like an anniversary, becoming a grandparent, or a big birthday, or you want me to document a lifetime of stories, I make the process incredibly easy and meaningful.

What memories and milestones would you ask your parents to save before it’s too late?

My services work for just about anyone who wants to pause and reflect on their life or a specific moment, including:

  • Grandparents or elders wanting to preserve life stories, reflections, and memories for their adult children, grandchildren, and other loved ones over the course of a handful or more interviews. My grandfather gifted his memoir to me and my family, and it remains my most treasured possession and makes me deeply wish my other grandparents had written their memoirs for me too.

  • Retirees who want to easily reflect for an hour or two on their career, the major decisions they had to make, the challenges and highlights, and the people they met along the way. A perfect gift to commemorate retirement and help people look ahead to what’s next.

  • New Parents who are busy yet want to pause for an hour to reflect on the transition to becoming a parent and document current memories of raising a family, preserving moments that can easily be lost to the blur and overwhelm of parenthood. This service makes for a wonderful, thoughtful gift for a partner or couple you love who is celebrating mother’s day, father’s day, or a child’s milestone birthday.

  • Couples who are celebrating an engagement or anniversary. You can give your partner the gift of your memories and reflections on your journey as a couple, what you love the most about them, and your favorite moments together. This service also makes for a beautiful gift to a friend who just got engaged or is celebrating an anniversary. This service can entail an interview with one partner or with both partners separately.

  • Friends who want to document their memories of a best friend or friend group, how they met, the mischief they got into, and their favorite moments together. This service can entail one interview with a friend or multiple interviews with multiple friends and is a stunning, yet easy way to celebrate a friend’s birthday and make sure that your memories of your friendships don’t fade with time.

I turn people’s thoughts of someday writing about their life into a finished, full-blown memoir.

I worked with my first client, Louie, several years ago and over the course of ten interviews, we created his memoir, titled “Meet Me at the Greens,” focusing heavily on the friends he hung out with in school, the games they played, the legendary shenanigans they got into, and how he ended up in California from Long Island. I enjoyed and learned so much during this process and continue to work with new clients on creating their memoirs.

“I wanted to write a memoir because my children urged me to write down all the stories I told them over the years. Whenever I was together with my children and grandchildren telling stories, they wanted me to write a book. I told them stories of my teenage years growing up in New York with all my family and friends. I can’t say enough about Katlin. If it was not for all her help and expertise and dedication to writing, I would still be writing. I would recommend you get in touch with Katlin as she is a tremendous help in memoir writing.”

Your dad’s most precious memories are at risk of fading. I make sure they’re preserved forever. This is how I do it.

I’m on a mission to help your loved ones preserve life stories in a way that’s easy and energizing for them, enabling them to create a legacy that is treasured forever. While every project is unique, the process generally looks like this:

  1. We have a 15-30 minute planning session, where we determine the type of service you’re interested in and the number of interviews that aligns with the type of memoir you want to create.

  2. I create a list of questions tailored to your goals.

  3. We do interviews, with each interview lasting anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes. Some projects require just one interview while others require eight or more.

  4. After interviews, I transcribe, edit, and organize your memoir content so that it is clear, engaging, and ready to be printed.

  5. Print your memoir booklet or book and gift it to loved ones to treasure forever.

It’s hard to write about your life on your own. I make the process of recording memories ridiculously easy and enjoyable.

There are so many apps for recording memories via computers, phones, and journals, but to me, this is deeply impersonal, rigid, and not motivating, requiring your mother to share her memories alone by answering pre-determined prompts. What I offer is a much more meaningful, engaging, and efficient experience. Here’s why:

  • it’s easier to record stories through interviews with a human than toiling away on your own in front of a computer, phone, or a journal. Interviews feel like organic conversations rather than like computer homework.

  • it’s faster to do interviews (whether we do one interview or a dozen interviews) compared to having to remember to sit down each week to record stories with an app or computer for a number of months or years and risk never even starting or finishing it.

  • the opportunities to recover forgotten memories increases during interviews as I ask follow-up questions or go on interesting tangents during interviews.

  • your loved one has someone reflecting back to them the amazing experiences and interesting, poignant reflections they’ve shared; an app can’t do that in any meaningful way.

  • Coaching:‍ ‍

    • You’re in the driver’s seat of preserving your parent’s legacy. I give you a clear and simple roadmap and together we create a plan tailored to your goals and capacity, while I cheer you on and help you with each major next step until the process is complete. You set the pace for how frequently you would like to receive coaching.

    • Coaching sessions: Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly

    • Best for: Adult children who want to preserve their parent’s legacy and create an unforgettable experience in the process.

    • Price: $50 per session (30 - 45 minutes each)

What do you have to risk by waiting to document your parents’ stories? Let’s get started today:

No two memoir projects are the same, but these are the most common types of services I provide for preserving parents’ memories:

  • A Booklet of Life Stories:

    • A precious booklet created from one interview with your loved one to document memories of a specific milestone or across a lifetime. This is my most flexible service and works well for anyone with only an hour to interview, from grandparents to new parents to recently engaged couples, with the option to add on interviews.

    • Interviews: 1 interview (60 - 90 minutes)

    • What you receive: An audio file from our interview and a beautiful PDF booklet, 7-10 pages long, with curated text and photos, ready to be printed and gifted with family and friends.

    • Best for: people who have one hour to reflect on a milestone, relationship, or special life stories.

    • Starting price: $250 for one interview with editing.

  • A Novella of Life Stories:

    • A beautiful novella built from several guided interviews with your parent to cover more life stories, reflections, and memories.

    • Interviews: 3-4 interviews

    • What you receive: Audio files of our interviews and a PDF file containing your loved one’s novella, 30-50 pages long, that is ready to print, gift, and be treasured forever.

    • Best for: Grandparents, elders, or anyone else who wants to document life stories and memories within three or four interviews.

    • Starting price: $1,000 for roughly five hours of interviews, transcribing, organizing, editing, and adding photographs.

  • A Book of Life Stories:

    • A priceless book built from ten or more guided interviews with your parent about their life, core memories, challenges, advice for younger generations, and other questions or topics you’d like me to ask about. What your parent creates becomes a priceless heirloom to treasure and pass on to grandchildren, children, and friends.

    • Interviews: 6-8 interviews

    • Best for: Grandparents, elders, families, or friend groups who have a large quantity of life stories and memories to preserve.

    • What you receive: Audio files from our interviews and a PDF book, 80 - 100 pages long, that is ready to print, gift, and be treasured by children, grandchildren, and friends forever.

    • Starting price: $2,000 for ten hours of interviews and the behind-the-scenes work of carefully transcribing, organizing, editing and adding photographs to make your memories shine.
